Description
London blue checkerboard cut earrings; they are called checkerboard because they look like a checkerboard. The facets are square and often mistaken for a Rose cut. Translucent stones are usually cut in this way. A checkerboard cut adds character to the distinctive design.
Highly regarded London blue topaz is a variety of Topaz with a medium to dark blue colour, often with a greenish tone but not always. As in all gems, the colour can vary greatly. Topaz is one of the world’s favourite coloured gemstones; it is “mineral number 8” on the Mohs Scale of Hardness and the birthstone for November.
Topaz has an extensive colour range, besides brown, which includes various tones and saturations of blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple. Colourless Topaz is plentiful and is often treated to give it a blue colour. Topaz is also pleochroic, meaning the gem can show different colours in different crystal directions.
Not only does the Topaz have a distinctive style, but the sensual smooth design of the earrings is also unique. Both the creation and the gems are incredible individually.
Silver is white, which agrees with the colour of the Topaz. Silver is supposedly the colour of the moon, which also has a blue tinge, hence the title ‘blue moon. ‘ Actually, this does not refer to the moon’s colour. I will leave the ‘blue moon’ research up to you.
London blue checkerboard cut earrings are unique; the design can be repeated. However, checkerboard cut may take time, while faceted Topaz is readily available.
A checkerboard cut adds character to the distinctive design.
The earrings’ concave shape makes them easy to wear despite their size. They are bold and beautiful.
