Description
Australian Crystal Blue Opal Pendant
The Australian Crystal Blue Opal Pendant features a striking sky-blue Crystal Opal set in a combination of pure silver and pure yellow gold. The oval silver frame complements the gemstone’s translucent beauty, while decorative gold rosettes add a feminine, shimmering touch. The result is a piece that feels both bright and fresh.
Opals sourced from South Australian mines showcase the predominant characteristics of these regions—white and crystal blue varieties. Crystal Opals are known for their translucent appearance, with vibrant colours that seem to float within the gem. In contrast, white Opals are opaque but display similar flowing hues. Colour intensity varies naturally, and the more vivid the play of colour, the more valuable the Opal.
Our Opals are hand-cut by an artisan gem cutter. Depending on the stone’s character and the desired finish, they may be carved, cabochon cut (flat-backed with a domed top), or faceted (cut with multiple flat surfaces, like a diamond).
Opals’ primary component is silica. They are formed over five to six million years and result from a unique geological process. Silica, mixed with water, seeps into the earth and evaporates over time, leaving behind microscopic layers that eventually form crystals. This requires alternating wet and dry seasons—the perfect balance of nature and time. Now, all we need to do is wait another six million years.
