Description

The Silver and platinum inlay wedding ring has two processes.

The first process is the ‘inlay’ technique. A shape is carved or etched into the silver band to form a cavity. A piece of platinum is cut to fit perfectly into the silver cavity and soldered in place.

Secondly, the platinum and silver combination is rolled flat. Platinum is denser than silver; therefore, it doesn’t stretch at the same rate. Even though both metals are very soft and malleable, their characteristics are very different. Silver tends to spread while platinum tends to stretch a little. The difference in density when rolled flat creates a ‘Shabby Chic’ style.

The style suits men and women; the design is neither masculine nor feminine. Even though the two metals represent opposites, one is soft and the other robust. One is white, while the other is steel grey. Both are precious metals, therefore treated with equal value. The two metals are the yin and yang in jewellery making. If there is such a thing as androgynous jewellery, this is it.

The silver section of the ring is slightly textured, while the platinum is a bright polish.

The silver and platinum inlay ring is hand-made. Because of the hand-made process, no two rings are identical, and each piece will vary slightly and have a unique pattern.
