Description
The Starfish with glistening features has a diamond set in its centre.
On a summers day at the beach, I found rock pools full of warm water and small treasures. A Starfish caught my eye; it moved abstractly across the sand; what attracted my attention was the sideways movement. The legs were doing their best to maneuver around the pool. To express in metal the way the legs moved was not easy. Cutting random leg shapes and lengths implied movement. I domed the belly, I shaped and thoughtfully filed the legs. Lastly, I soldered on the pure gold granules and added the glistening texture, and finally set the diamond. To capture the glistening water and sunshine in the pendant, a frosting technique and the sparkle of a small diamond contributed to achieving the desired effect—the chosen medium is pure silver for the glistening finish. So now the concept of the Starfish with glistening features and a diamond was complete.
Delightful memories of the beautiful day at the beach carried me through to the making process.
This pendant was an easy project to complete, it gave me great pleasure making it, and I hope the wearer enjoys it as much as I did making it.
